We are implementing a palliative care program and named it as 'Supportive Unit' in the State of Kerala. The services of 'Supportive Unit Program' are an approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families who are facing problems associated with life-threatening illness. We aim to reach & support 100 sick & disabled persons monthly.
The program provides all the services and supports on the assessment and need based and enables the beneficiaries to have a meaningful experience during their difficult times. To reach the beneficiaries regularly, the program has 3 zones (South zone, Central zone and North zone). The beneficiaries of the palliative care program are receiving monthly support, food kits, education aid etc. We have Home Care Visit by an interdisciplinary team and each visit ensures that beneficiaries other basic needs are also being met and bring comfort.
This palliative care program provide a monthly support for medicine or travel purpose for the beneficiaries. It will also take initiatives to provide resources for the dependents improve their economic well-being. We ensure medical equipment (Wheel chairs, walkers, back rest cot with bed etc) for beneficiaries while they require it. Also this program arrange counselling and 'Ask Doctor Program' on their requests. Our counsellors are helping to overcome the ill patient’s depression, confusion, stubbornness, fears and anxieties. We make available the services of professional volunteers at free of cost for the beneficiaries of the program. Also this program offers 24 – hour access to a social worker for information, support and problem‐solving by over the phone.
We are conducting mental health awareness programs which take initiatives to reduce the mental illness and mental health conditions. Often, because of misconceptions about mental health and mental fitness, people often suffer in silence and their conditions go untreated. Mental health is important in everyday life which includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being.
